Finance Team

Ministry Description:

The finance team handles donations to the church, payments made by the church (e.g. utility bills), record keeping, reporting and auditing of our process. Donations include online and donations made through the offering box. Payments include invoices received, reimbursements and payroll related expenses. Record keeping includes tax statements for donors, tracking accounts within the budget and generating monthly reports for the elder board. The audit team audits our process annually to ensure the financial integrity of the church.

Volunteer Positions/Number of Volunteers Needed:

a. Financial Secretary (Roger Olsen): Receive all incoming funds including donations, rent payments and other miscellaneous income. Maintain records, issue annual giving statements and coordinate with the treasurer and elders.

b. Treasurer (Chuck Tomaszewski): Maintain accounts payable, track spending against the annual budget, provide the elders with monthly financial reports (Account balances, Treasurers report and Unbudgeted income and expenses).

c. Offering counter: (team) Count the offering each week and deliver the results and contribution to the financial secretary.

d. Audit team (Teia Klimek, Jim Clem, Cindi Ledin): Audit the financial statements of the church once per year, provide results to the congregation and elders as well as recommend improvements. The audit typically occurs in the first quarter of the year after the books are closed on the prior year.

Expectations:

  • The roles of Financial Secretary and Treasurer are long-term (multi-year) commitments due to the technical nature of the accounting software and IRS rules. In addition, the Treasurer is registered with our credit union to transact business on behalf of the church.

  • The audit team members are volunteers appointed by the elders and may change each year. However, we have been blessed by a team that has continued year after year and thus knows our process well.

  • The offering counter teams have flexibility and share the task depending upon who is available on each Sunday.

Time Commitment:

  • Financial Secretary: 10 hours/month

  • Treasurer: 12 hours/month

  • Offering counter: less than 1 hour/week

  • Audit team: 10 hours/team member/year
