Music Ministry Outreach

Description of Ministry:

Presenting musical programs and church services to various independent, assisted livings, memory care homes within a 10-mile radius of Grace Fridley. We are a group of instrumentalists and vocalists who enjoy sharing music and the “good news” with our neighbors in care homes.

Volunteer Positions/Number of Volunteers Needed: Open to all ages

a. Singer’s - soprano, alto, tenor, bass. Group singing, soloist or small groups. We are singing with the residents.

b. Instrumentalist’s- piano, guitar, ukulele, strings (violin, viola, cello) woodwinds (clarinet, oboe, flute, saxophone) brass (trumpet, trombone, baritone) etc.

c. Prayer Chain - prayer list of resident and Care Home staff as well as our group of volunteers.

d. Card Ministry - to residents in the various care homes and also Grace Fridley members and attenders who are unable to attend regular services.

e. Crafters - making small gifts as reminders of our love for those in the care home.

Expectations:

Ministry volunteers can participate in this ministry year-round. (January is the one month we take a break)

We have a variety of care homes and independent living facilities that we are invited to each month on a regular basis. Most programs and services are monthly, and some are quarterly. Many of our volunteers go to all the care homes each month but the beauty of this ministry is you can do it when your schedule is open. There is no pressure if you must miss a service or program. Contact Carol Clem if you cannot participate as soon as you know. Life happens.

We need at least 4 -6 people to participate in each service but at times 14 volunteers are available. There are no auditions, but instrumentalists should be able to read and play notes or chords. Level is easy to intermediate.

Programs and services music are available in advance for you.

Typical Month

1st and 3rd Monday in the afternoon,

3rd and 4th Friday in the morning.

Special Months

1st and 2nd and 3rd . Monday in the afternoon,

1st , 3rd, and 4th Friday morning/afternoon,

2nd and 3rd Thursday morning /afternoon,

2nd and 3rd Sunday in afternoon.

Time Commitment:

Programs and services are 30-40 minutes in length. I ask that all arrive at least 15 minutes before the program or service. I would estimate this will take about an average with driving times included about one and a half to one and three-quarter hour. You must have transportation to these facilities. You may share rides.

There are no rehearsals unless we need them. Music is not difficult. Both sacred and secular music are in the repertoire.

We would love to do Sunday afternoon times. We will make that available as soon as we have people willing to participate.
